I've Been Sold Something I Can't Afford

and neither can you. If you can, I hate you. Kidding, but help me.

Things I've been sold and can't afford:
  1. Study Abroad
  2. Range Rover
  3. Loft in Manhattan, or anything in Manhattan for that matter
  4. Perfect Vision
  5. Designer this, that, everything...wow that covers a lot for me.
  6. Education. Sad.

my life

is a joke.

sometimes i truly feel failure is inevitable for me considering my circumstances. ok. maybe not complete failure but never the success i dream of.

i wonder if i never gave any effort to anything. what would my life become? what if i buy a plane ticket to a random country and just be homeless? is that how places aquire homeless people?

i found this article while researching something about tourism for a paper...
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2007/11/01/2007-11-01_some_tourists_choose_city_landmarks_for_-1.html

yes, i know its old, and i know its from the daily news but i thought it was interesting.

when i grow up

i want to be famous, i want to be a star, i want to have boobies.

no seriously. for my non-celebrity self its very hard to figure out what i want to do when i 'grow up.' i pretty much consider myself 'grown up' being that i'm 20 years old. even though i live with my parents and dont have too many bills to pay im pretty much self sufficient. i work. im in college. my dad still does my laundry though. lol.

im at the point where i need to decide what i wish to continue my education in. honestly, if i were a genius id just be a doctor. yes im in school for 10 plus years but if i were a genius that wouldnt be an issue, because id love school. however, im not a genius. so i have to pick a career from a pool that a lot of other ppl are swimming in. the average pool.

i cant start my own business because get real. im poor. lol.

i cant even think seriously about any career because honestly i dont see myself doing well in anything. i dont even see myself having the opportunity of a dream a job, etc. i know i sound negative and unmotivated but im just being realistic.

school will be over soon. not soon enough.

public affairs vs. journalism. either way im going to probably get high stress low pay. or boring low pay job.

I didn't get the job as a receptionist at wachovia. hm. let me evaluate myself. I'm taking this very hard because its the first job I didn't get. seriously, there were only 4 other people. what was my competition? to really assess why I didn't get the position I will need to review the job description/post.

Ok. To make this simple I'm just going to compare myself to the "requirements".
  • 2+ years working place experience with front desk exposure.

I functioned as a receptionist with JP Morgan, not two years but a few months during an internship. really. its not hard to smile and transfer phone calls. anyone who needs 2 years to perfect that position...lets not even go there.

  • high school degree

class of 2006. Murry Bergtraum H.S.

  • college a plus

Baruch College Student.

  • customer service focus

Why yes, I do strive to please wachovias clientele. I love problem solving.

  • work well without direct supervision

Yes, I am a self starter. I wouldn't slack off and play solitaire at the computer if I didn't have anything to do. I'd start cleaning, organizing, or doing anything else to keep myself busy.

  • team player

Yes. I am a team player with quite the can-do attitude. I spent a year playing softball, have completed numerous group projects in school, in my current position we all work together to figure out how to improve our program.

  • able to prioritize and multitask

My life consist of prioritizing and multitasking.

  • proficiency in MS office

Yes, I studied all of the MS office applications in high school. I am certified in MS excel by Microsoft Office.

  • high level of communication skills

Yes.

  • not intimidated by persons with authority

Spoken in front of large groups. Including city council.

Ok. Did I miss anything? Oh yes. I have a professional appearance. Which I didn't get from your employees. Open toed shoes, sleeveless shirts, not pretty? ok I was kidding about that last part.

sorry about everything being lowercase. and grammatical errors. i don't have time to consume myself with that because i'm job hunting.

I think I might be over exagerating about the entire thing. but it is the first job that I've interviewed for and didn't get. i want to take it as a sign of better things to come but i really wanted this because its such a simple position that i know i would do well in. and the whole 'i really enjoyed you...call me at the end of the summer' really peeves me. if you really liked me why didn't you convince your supervisor that i was a better candidate? why would i call you at the end of the summer? i need work now. the second interviewer was more concerned with the new CEO's announcement that my qualifications for the position.

Furthermore, maybe someone was better qualified. the only thing i can think of is someone who has had a consistent position as a receptionist. but i would assume that you can get a better position if you have more experience.

In all, its not hard to be a receptionist. anyone, well almost anyone, can do it. smiling, transfering calls, pressing open door. WOW. CHALLENGING.

fin.

Get Smart

pretty funny.

2 more weeks of summer school!

and of course my left wisdom tooth picks the perfect time to try and break through my gums. I really cant afford to go to the dentist and miss school to pull a tooth out...it took me a whole week to recover when I got my right side pulled.
